The Production Team

Artistic Director and Choreographer

Mel Wellsman

Mel began her choreographic career at the age of fourteen, having danced since the age of four.  Professionally trained in ballet and musical theatre and with an Honours degree in Dance and Culture from the University of Surrey, Mel has choreographed and staged a wide variety of productions from full-scale musicals to cabaret floorshows. As a performer, Mel has had the immense pleasure of playing lead role in My Fair Lady, Crazy For You, Sweeney Todd, Jesus Christ Superstar and Chess.

Associate Director

Brian Wellsman

Brian was a London based Entertainments Manager for Mecca, in its heyday, producing and directing gigs for artists and bands such as The Small Faces, The Cream, Cliff Richards and the Shadows, The Kinks and Tom Jones. He additionally produced and directed full-scale ice galas as well as performing in the barrel jumping. On moving to Swale in the mid 1970's Brian became involved in a local drama group working with their backstage team. He rapidly progressed to become their Director, a position he retained for 11 years. 1989 saw the opening of the Avenue Theatre in Sittingbourne, a project (chaired and managed by Brian) to refurbish the old council chamber into a 90 seater theatre. Brian is a founding member of Second To None Productions.

Producer

Chris Hawkins

Chris joined Second to None in 1991, as a member of the technical crew. Over an ensuing 15 years, his involvement has steadily increased, moving from being a sound technician during production week, to fixing the orchestra and equipment hire in 2001 and finally progressing to a fully fledged member of the Production Team for Sweeney Todd in 2002.
Chris still enjoys to use his technical skills behind the mixer desk during the various productions and events and also extends this by producing and maintaining the companys website and IT facilities.

Production Assistant

Helen Davies

Being in the teaching profession, Helen has had some experience of being on stage in the staff panto, but having played the fairy godmother once too often, she now realises that her talent lies very much behind the scenes.

Dancing Through Life is Helen's very first involvement in the production of musical theatre and she is sure that under Brian, Mel and Chris's excellent tutelage she will find that helping on the production team is her natural place in the world of theatre.
